In pain? Looking for an Osteopath in Taunton?

After completing the initial paperwork, your Osteopath will begin by taking a full 'case history' including past medical records and details of any previous injuries. We will then go through a series of movements and simple tests to determine what has gone wrong to cause your pain.

Less than 5% of our patients require X-rays or a scan. If we request these and organise them for you, it’s either because we need to rule out serious conditions or to assist us in assessing the most effective treatment  for you.

Having taken your case history and examined you, your Osteopath will explain in detail your diagnosis and recommend a personalised treatment plan. Treatment can usually begin on the first visit and you will then be advised booking your follow up treatments.

There are 3 Stages of Osteopathic care

Pain relief is what most patients are looking for the first time they visit the clinic.  It can be as simple as a slip at work, picking up the grandchildren, or sleeping in an awkward position overnight.

Whatever the cause of the acute episode, we are able to get most clients back on track within a few weeks of hands-on care. Normally, three to five treatments should help for the majority of your symptoms. We arrange appointments around your schedule.

Once we have the initial pain under control and movement is comfortable, we move to addressing the underlying cause of the pain.

Your Osteopath will progressively replace hands-on treatment with exercises and stretches that you can do at home, to put YOU in the driving seat. This will help to stabilise the muscles and keep the pain away.

As your spinal movement eases, you will require less treatment. At this stage, patients may be receiving care every other month.

Many patients decide to come in occasionally  for scheduled maintenance care. The frequency of progress checks will vary from person to person  depending on the nature of your initial problem and your lifestyle.

Like going to the dentist, once you are pain free, we suggest occasional check-ups to prevent relapse.

Sadly, research on the chances of a second episode of back pain after a first incident is staggeringly high. Research in the journal Spine suggests that 60 to 86% of patients reporting recurrent back pain symptoms within the first twelve months.  [Spine (2001) 26 (11): E243-E248].

Most people understand the sense in having their car serviced every year, rather than waiting for it to break down. Why not have an spinal MOT every 3-6 months, rather than risk waiting for painful symptoms to recur?
